I also painted my board but it is still in the art room so I cannot show you it right now but it was the most of what I worked on. I also printed all the pieces but some are still printing so again I will show them tomorrow
These were my precedents. The first one is a war strategy game similar to what I want to make, and the second is star wars ships to base my ships on.
This was my first sketch on day 0. There were no materials that I needed that I did not currently have. As you can see I made a sketch of a board and I conceptualised the pieces.
Part 1 - The Board
I then made both parts of the board on cuttle. I decided to hand-make the squares in between planets and moons because I do not know what will be on them yet.
Part 1
Part 2
This was the final result of the laser-cut pieces.
Problems I have or will be facing:
Painting may take a few classes and may not look great on the first try, but I do not really get a second try
Hand-making the spaces may be inconsistent...
Next steps on this front:
Paint the board with the help of Mrs. Walrod
Add in the spaces
Create a spinner? Maybe dice
glue the pieces together
Part 2 - The Pieces
I wanted to make a few kinds of pieces. I ended up making 6 kinds, 3 ship pieces and 3 structure pieces.
These were my first 3 ship pieces, a gunship, a torchship (technically gunShip and torchShip but idc) and a dreadnought
Dreadnought (Max 4 per team)
Torchship (Max 12 per team)
Gunship (Max 16 per team)
I then made a print that i will do twice, once per team it is the max ships a team can have
I then made each structure: factories produce ships, mines let factories produce better ships, and docks allow torchships and dreadnoughts to station on a planet. This will be printed only once, as it has both teams' supply of structures. every structure has a max of 13 per team.
Mines
Docks
Factories
I then made a lot of rules and instructions for each piece in-depth that will later go into my rulebook (which may turn out to be quite big). I did not include them here because it would be an absolute wall of text and that is boring.
Problems I have or will be facing:
My slow chromebook cannot download the stl files for my very big prints :(
Even if I could get the files to print it would take like 2 days just to print on set of ships, plus time for supports... and I have to dip these in paint to get them color-coded
Next steps on this front:
Try to find a way to print my pieces, or just may a bunch of smaller prints
then I will dip these in paint, and maybe find or make a bag to store them
NEXT UP IS CARDS - they are going to be very important and I plan to make them out of cardstock
After my Mid-Review, most people told me to simplify my 3D printed designs.
This is what i came up with...
This was the tinkercad view
As you can see, they are very simple.
Next, I spent a lot of time working on my board, and I finished painting it. This is the final result.
Then, I created a rules document for those who do not know how to play the game.
This will be printed twice, one for each team. The rules for these pieces in battle are: GUNSHIP: for each gunship, destroy a gunship every third turn. If there are not any opposing gunships, every 4 turns destroy a torchship TORCHSHIP: Every other turn, either a) destroy 2 gunships or b) destroy 1 torchship. If there are no opposing gunships or torchships, every 5 turns destroy a dreadnought DREADNOUGHT: Every turn choose: a) destroy a dreadnought b) destroy 2 torchships c) destroy 5 gunships WHEN SIEGING: gunships destroy a mine every third turn, torchships destroy a mine every other turn, a factory and a dock every third turn, dreadnoughts destroy a mine every turn, and a factory and a dock every other turn. Ships stationed on the planet being sieged must be battled and destroyed BEFORE sieging. Important: the initiator of a battle goes first always.
This will be printed only once,
the rules for these pieces are:
factories are needed to produce ships. Each mine you have upgrades you factory by one level, so you need one of each to begin making ships. to place a factory you must spin better than 2. To place a mine you must get better than the next level plus 1, so to place your first mine you must spin better than 2, the second one you must spin better than 3, and for the final mie you must spin better than 4. LEVEL 1: every other turn produce a gunship LEVEL 2: every 3 turns produce a torchship LEVEL 3: every 5 turns produce a dreadnought DOCKS: You must build one of these to station troops better than gunships on your planet. To place this you must roll better than a 3 (for planets) or a 4 (for moons). EXTRA INFO: The mine leveling system is not for all placed factories, each factory must have their own mines. There is a max of 13 bases per player, 13 factories per player, and 13 mines per player.
