With the 2018 midterm elections flooding media outlets with campaign stances and interviews, we are reminded of the importance of using our voice to impact our communities. Sometimes looking at the national and even statewide level can be intimidating, but this studio will give students the opportunity to use their design and fabrication skills to advocate for a better Fessenden community.

In this studio, students will choose a specific issue relevant to the Fessenden community, and design ways to inform, promote or create engagement around their topic through interactive installations on the school campus. Through multiple iterations, research, and feedback to explore various angles of this issue and make informed, intentional choices about location and methods. The goal of the semester is for students to not only explore their own ideas of what an “ideal community” is but to be empowered to communicate those ideas in creative and innovative ways.
