Solution

A broken roof that leaks water and can't keep temperatures steady can be fixed by using ideas from crabs for replacement and sea sponges for restructuring, keeping everything safe and stable.

Challenge: Material Selection

Problem: The wood was too heavy for the servo motor to lift.

When cutting cardboard, the laser cutter will put the cardboard on fire.

Solution: Instead of changing the roof material, we changed the motor into a stronger one with a stronger extended arm. To make sure the board goes up, we glued the tile on to the arm.

Future Goals:

• Fix the top layer of the roof
• Get the pressure sensor able to sense the absence of a piece of tile
• Make sure the servo motor is putting the tile in the right place

Inspiration & Idea

• When there are lots of people working out the room starts to get hot and humid

• To get rid of the warm, humid air, the windows open to let the air out and fresh air in.

• Inspired by pinecones, which open in changes of humidity or heat, we applied this concept to a room or weight room.

Problem

Plants placed in greenhouses do not absorb enough UV lighting on cloudy days. The surrounding transparent surfaces diminishing the UV lighting.

Solution

Create an automated cover for the transparent surfaces. On cloudy days it will close to let the plants receive enough UV lighting. on sunny days it will open to maximize the amount of sunlight the plants will be receiving

Preview: Initial Arduino mapping

At first we considered building a sub-aqautic docking system for submarines based off of the remora. This would allow for stealthier movement and leave the submarines less vulnerable. We didn't do this because the remoras attachment segment is very complicated and would require complex 3d printers we don''t possess.

We also considered making a roof using properties of a turtle shell. The roof would have been more resilient to storms due to its aerodynamic and stable shape. We decided against it because there were already extremely similar projects.

By applying the concept protective hardening in sap to the hull of boats, we can greatly reduce risk of sinking at sea.
